A Chinese engineering student, Jia Ming Xiong, at Beijing University tried just that.

He and his colleagues added gyroscopic sensors to a standard electric bike, turning it into a smart and self-balancing electric bike.

The engineer, a vlogger, designed a complex auto-control system for the bike that helps control, run and balance the bike without being manned.

According to the CAD model, the bike uses electric motors and flywheels under the seat, a servo-powered system for the front wheels, and a battery pack to power the machine.

    How does it work?

    The bike is still in its testing phase, but the student claims that he has already made a prototype that can turn corners by itself.

    The system for this auto-control uses four flywheels and two gyroscopes under the seat. These provide power to turn left or right depending on which way you lean your weight. It also has a gyro, RGB depth camera, accelerometer, and LiDAR that detect the front of the bike and ensure that you don’t hit anything or fall off.

    The inventor claims that he can take his hands off the handlebars for ten seconds without causing any problems with balance.

    The bicycle has no pedals, making it ideal for people who want to ride but cannot ride a normal bike by balancing themselves on the two wheels. It would also cost less than a regular self-powered bicycle.

    At the moment, the inventor is trying to find investors or companies that want to test his smart electric bike and help him turn this invention into something people can use.
