These spikes are waaay too long :-) I'm afraid You will loose them fast and/or destroy the tire...
The screw tip should be barely visible.

WD- You're right. I've already cut them down to about 1/3rd their original length. Live and learn, eh?

I have something like these Suomi W106 winter tyres which have really small studs.

I have them for front and back, but this winter I've been testing with just the front one, and so far has been fine. I've been going slower, and on occasion the back does slip, but it's felt safe enough. Both on is definitely better though.

I've had good success with only thumb tacks. Fast and easy install. Trim to length when finished.
