I bet you could get an old derailleur for free from some dead bike and use it instead. Those things were made just for this purpose.

I did the same in my old coaster bike, but instead of pulling down, I lifted the chain up and it looks great. No money spent, only the broken, rusty old derailleur.

you would get better chain wrap if you ran the chain on top of the joockey wheel
