As an Electrical Engineer (equal emphasis on both) I find some of he hacks on here a bit rudimentary.
But this one is inspiring. Following the ideal of the simplest ideas being the best.

Very nice. Sturdy and elegant. not just on folding bikes...

Also the manufacturer of the lamps (Busch+Müller) likes this idea - they've posted an article on their companies website:


That makes me think... Using the bowdwn cable to protect a fiber... Laser diode... the taillight just being some optics, small, elegant, but not energy efficient...
