Many of those who lived through the 80s will likely remember the explosion of the sneaker industry. This was the decade that a pair of kicks broke the $100 mark. One of the primary drivers was of course Air Jordans. I remember watching TV in the hope that I would be able to catch one of the Mars Blackmon commercials. After all, back then you could not just pull up any video you wanted on Youtube.
I made a recent trip to NYC and within the span of two blocks spotted shoes festooned on two different bikes.
