Seeing as I am a member of the media and all, I thought I would provide a bike perspective on the recent snowfall in the Northeast. News correspondents use all sorts of things to measure snow, the most popular seems to be cars.
Anchor with blindingly white teeth: "Lets go to Jim who is live on the scene."
Jim, with 60 mile per hour winds buffeting him: "This car is covered in snow! Amazing!"
However, I have not seen a bike used as a measurement. So cyclists can relate, I plopped by bike into the snow behind our place -
I would say the snow packed down about 4-6 inches when I stuck it in, so I would give this storm a measurement of 3/4 of a 700 x 35.
That's more like a proper winter storm. We had two of those in a single week at the end of December. Within a week, we were two 26'er deep.
You know you had a proper snowstorm when you can park your bike against a snowbank as if against a wall. =D

Looks like nothing a few zip-ties on your tires won't fix...
