A missing pedal would make a fine theft deterrent. At least until the thieves start carrying them.

I'm forced to assume that somewhere there's an extremely strong and agile one-legged person. Riding a brakeless fixie? Not impressed. Riding a brakeless fixie with ONLY ONE LEG? Now THAT's impressive! (Still foolish in my mind, but impressive!)

My guess is that one could sprint from the crime scene without a seat; one pedal would slow the "getaway" down significantly.
