I admit it, I have been juicing. Cat 6 racing can be serious business and juicing helps me power through. Unlike most of the cyclists winning trophies apparently, my juicing is all natural, and yes you can test me all you like. I have been juicing with the superfruit of Africa, the Baobab fruit.
Never heard of it before? Well I had not either until the fine folks selling this organic and sustainable superfruit contacted us and passed along some samples to test.
The email I received noting the following:
Baobab, the king of superfruits from Africa,
boasts more antioxidants than pomegranate, blueberries and acai, and has
recovery and hydration benefits for cyclists.
Baobab Drink Mix offers athletes a boost of B6,
B12 and electrolytes to optimize riding performance and support overall
health. The Drink Mix has twice as much potassium as bananas and four
times more magnesium than coconut water.
People are saying that Baobab is a delicious and
healthy way to start the day, featuring vitamins C and D, more than
7,500 ORAC units of antioxidants per serving, plus 3 grams of fiber.
No needles are required, they sent me a powder and you just need an empty bottle and the ability to shake vigorously.
After drinking the stuff for a few weeks I can attest that I like it. It is not overly sweet and I do find it refreshing. I cannot say that my commuting speed has automatically boosted several MPH and no scientific experiments have been run on me to test effectiveness, but to me something that tastes good and is refreshing is proof enough. Plus they have this nifty table that shows the benefits and seems to have been put together by someone wearing a lab coat.
So, if you are looking for a drink supplement that tastes good, is nutritious, and seems to be ethically harvested, give Baobab a try. I give it five zip ties.
The Baobab tree looks like the "tree of life" from Disney. If I come across this in a store I will definitely give it a try. =)
