The only "DIY" skirt guards I've seen are crocheted jobs that you hook to the rear fenders with clips, like the ones available from http://www.simeli.nl/

I am pretty sure I have seen this done with coroplast and zip ties....

But check out this totally Bike Hack-worthy skirt guard made from a handkerchief!

If you want something semi-invisible, try using fishing line. It will require eyelets of some sort evenly spaced along the fender as well as an single eyelet around the axle area. Just thread back and forth, like lacing your shoes. Fishing line doesn't weather too well but hey...it's cheap!

I made a set out of corrugated plastic(AKA Coroplast) and zip-tied it on. It's ugly, but it keeps my daugters feet and clothes out of the spokes when she rides with me.

If you know how to crochet, here's a pattern for $6:

Wow, Kagi, that crochet pattern is awesome.

I have to say, I've ridden recumbent bikes too long; I had an entirely different concept in mind when I was imagining the need for a skirt guard on a bicycle ;-)

This website is great for women looking to ride a bike and be as stylish as they want to be: http://letsgorideabike.com/blog/tag/skirts/

I've purchased one from this website. No DIY. You just attach it to the back wheel. Pretty easy.

Old thread but I like this idea: http://hideousdreadfulstinky.com/2013/06/no-sew-bicycle-skirt-guard-tutorial.html

I'm doing the same but with glow in the dark vinyl yarn from Jelly Yarns in the US.
