Reader Joe sent us a couple of small hacks he came up with. The main hack is securing a pump to the frame and the bonus hack involves a zip tie. Enjoy!
I bought a large seat bag recently so I could leave the water reservoir pack home on rides to shed some weight and give me some freedom. My repair kit turned out to fit well in the seat bag except my mini pump. The pump was one I found on the trail so it didn’t have a mounting bracket that comes with new ones so I made one from an unused u-lock mounting bracket.
I basically just inverted the u-lock bracket and mounted it to the seat tube and inserted the pump in the quick release opening where the u-lock bar would occupy . The pump doesn’t move around at all and doesn’t rely on the velcro set up that usually accompanies new mini-pumps.
As a bonus – a tie-wrap tightened loosely around you hubs will keep mud off (see the end of the green arrow).
