Reader Louie from Orange County, Southern California sent us a couple of pictures and some text to match. I can understand the tape on the tire if you live somewhere where rain is an anomaly, but that hack would not work where I live and ride.

Duck tape on the rubber of my main whip. Trying to get every mile out of them. Felt SR91 road bike, commuter with rack in rear - affectionately called "Felt Up." Roll with an 8 speed, other chain rings removed.
I tossed in another ghetto headlight hack on another bike, a Schwinn, for fun. The Schwinn is affectionately called Optimus.

I am of the opinion that any attempt to get a little more life out of tires will only end up costing you more in tubes.

I am of the opinion that I value my bodily safety more than the longevity of my tires and that I cannot imagine taking a corner at any kind of significant speed with duct tape flapping on my rear tire.

Decent tires can be had fairly cheaply (ie CST Ciudad) medical bills are far more expensive.
