A lot of parents talk about dealing with the problem of kids growing out of things. Most commonly the reference is to shoes or clothing, but what if the discussion turns to kids becoming too big for a bike trailer? Well, if you are reader Sum Dood, you hack a tandem to transport three instead of two. The following is a basic description from Some Dood's Facebook photo page, where additional pictures of other hacks can be found as well.
My grandsons, four and six, had become too big to sit alongside each other in the trailer in which my son towed them to school, but it occurred to me that it might not be too difficult to adapt the tandem to transport them. I bought two "Oxford Leco Top Tube Child Seats" and started to fiddle the parts into place. A seat of this design would normally be fitted on a solo bicycle in front of the rider.

Look at that photo of a bunch of happy cyclists (or is it a gaggle of cyclists? Herd? Pride? Group?). I like the double handlebar approach to give the kids their own place to hold on.
One question. I can't make it out in either of the photos, but do the kids each have foot pegs or something of the like? If they don't, they will most likely have a much more comfortable ride with the addition of some.
