Some bike hacks are permanent, some are temporary, and some are temp to perm. Reader Hugo, from Helsinki, sent along the following hacks, maybe not all permanent, but definitely good in a pinch.

When I put my studded winter tyres on last autumn, they didn't fit under my mudguards so I to take them off. But then it rained whilst I was at work before I'd had chance to put some replacements on. So I hacked together some makeshift mudguards an empty Alpen cereal box and an old DHL envelope. It worked quite well.
I eventually replaced the front one with a Crud Catcher and zip tied another rear mudguard on top of my rack for some rear protection (so the lever still worked), and I also took a tip from Bike Hacks and cut a water bottle in two and zip tied that on for some seat post protection.
