Reader Josh recently commented on one of our older, and most popular posts , 8 Bombproof DIY Bike Repair Stands (where did Brendon go anyway?). He built his own stand and posted it on Instructables. The parts and the pics are below, full instructions here.
What you need:

2 - 3" pieces
2 - 4" pieces
3 - 3/4" elbows

(center of stand)
1 - 36" pipe
(Bottom of stand)

I'm all in favor of DIY stuff, but I have yet to see a DIY stand I think I'd be as happy with as the Park stand I have.
I also question how much cheaper this is than searching around for a used stand - they do pop up on Craigslist and eBay from time to time...

This is what we called creativity, strong determination and hard work.. Great DIY project by Josh. Good to know about the details of the material needed for Bike stand by using pipes and plumbing stuff.

This just gave me a great idea. I am a plumber by trade and have all of these parts. I just started to ride and didn't have anything like this. Thanks for this post, I never thought to do this, even though I have the parts right in front of me everyday. Great thinking and post.
Thanks!
