One of the most popular things Bike Hacks readers are interested in is repair stands. I know this because Brendon's post on 8 Bombproof DIY Bike Repair Stands consistently ranks either at the top or close to the top in terms of searches on our site.
All of the bike repair stands that I have seen in my life share one thing in common - they sit on a flat surface, the ground, table, or a bench of some sort, and do not attempt to defy gravity. That is until now. Reader John, who submitted a post on repurposing a wheel chair in to a bike trailer, also passed along a great repair stand he created that defies conventional wisdom and is mounted to the ceiling.
John's blog features this project, and lots other great projects so make sure to check out Hackin5hit. He was kind enough to pass it along to us for posting. It's pretty self explanatory and the video and pictures supplied by John do a great job of showing how it's done. Thanks John!

In the early 80's, I saw a virtually identical (flange, water pipe, etc.) ceiling-mounted stand. I was impressed then and am impressed now.
This just may inspire me to do something similar for my tandem as it's a bitch to balance on my "traditional" stand.
Thanks.

While I can see merit in the idea, I'd never use it. It's almost a guarantee someone in my house would walk into it

I just unscrew the pipe and hang it out of the way when not in use.
