I use a U-lock to keep the front wheel from moving while parked. I could see this being useful for automobile hitches, to keep the wheels from spinning freely in the slipstream of a moving auto.

I ogle bikes all the time, especially the ones that need lots of work, and since I work at a university there are lots of decrepit bikes + peeps holding u-locks/phones/coffee while riding = accidents waiting to happen. Sometimes I forget I am ogling and I get an accusing look from the young lady on the bike, OOPS. Even if I were to explain, they wouldn't understand. Reminds me of the Pharcyde song: AWWW $h!t... Haha, life of a bike geek.
