If I were king, all bicycles would have bells or horns. Until then, I have to be the change I want to see in the world, and teach my four-year-old to not sneak up on people with his scooter (or bicycle).
The friendly LBS has a bin full of freebie bike-bells, and I needed to replace the broken bell on his scooter. But this bell was made for mounting to handlebars much smaller than the scooter.Solution: ZIP-TIE!
Just remove the bolt and slide out the square nut, then lace it up with a zip-tie. Pull it tight. Done!
There's also a small piece of inner-tube to keep the whole thing from
rotating. That hack was learned on the old bell, which had to be
adjusted almost every day.
i appreciate the sentiment, but is it really a hack every time someone uses a ziptie on a bicycle?

Slimbo,
There is no standard definition of what constitutes a hack - it's personal.
I personally believe the the zip tie is one of the best bicycle related accessories ever invented. I currently have over 20 of them on bike and they make it possible for to personalize, or shall I say, "Hack" my bike the way I see fit.

I have to say I agree. This is pretty weak sauce as far as a "hack" goes.
